i was in chicago last weekend at my friend roy's place, and i got to see a working example of nature's food chain at work.
there was a greasy bag of takeout sitting in the back yard, and i was three stories above on the deck behind his building. these little starlings and robins were waiting in line behind the crows, which were waiting just a few feet from the bag while a squirrel scavenged a french fry.
the squirrel would snag a fry and then hop up on the fence that divides the back yards -- a more advisable location to eat and keep an eye out for predators.
when the squirrel cleared away, the birds dove in and went to work. when the squirrel returned for each successive curly-cut potato chunk, the birds backed out and gave him a couple feet of space.
about the only thing in that neighbordhood (crackheadsville at broadway/lawrence) that could make me smile...
i thought i had lost my folder full of good (imo) negatives. for months i figured they were all gone. the few pictures i've posted here are low-res images i had on my hard drive.
i brought a box of junk up from my old home, and inside were my light box, loupe and negatives!!
i'm feeling much better and more images should be leaking out into my gallery soon...
